Doreen Jaeger-Soong

Managing Director

Born and educated in Hong Kong, Doreen majored in Psychology at Occidental College in California. She joined Hughes-Castell in 1991 and has been Managing Director of the company. Since 2011, after a management buy-out, she is also the owner and company Chairman. Doreen is fluent in English, Cantonese, German and French and proficient in Mandarin.

Doreen recruits at General Counsel and Partner level, and among her most recent placements have been the Asia Pacific General Counsel of a bulge bracket bank, the Asia General Counsel for a wealth management firm, the ASEAN General Counsel for a global conglomerate, the General Counsel of a Hong Kong listed company, a Partner for the China office of a Magic Circle firm, a Banking Partner for a major international law firm and the Chief Counsel Asia for a private equity firm. Doreen leads the Asia Business Development function and manages and mentors the teams in all offices.

Jacqueline Zhang

General Manager - Beijing

As the General Manager at Hughes-Castell Beijing office, Jacqueline takes care of recruitment assignments in private practice, including senior level associate and partner searches, and senior in-house positions in the region. Originally from China, Jacqueline obtained her LLM degree from the University of Hong Kong, her MSc in Finance from Cass Business School in London and her BA in English from Tianjin University. Prior to joining Hughes-Castell, she worked and lived in both China and Europe, where she has a well-established network. With her in-depth knowledge in multiple practice areas, understanding of various industries and great people skills, she excels at finding the best fit for both clients and candidates. She enjoys hiking, traveling and outdoor sports activities. She speaks fluent English, native Mandarin, proficient French and Cantonese.

Alfred Chu

General Manager - Shanghai

Originally from California, Alfred received his BA in Political Science and Economics at UC San Diego and completed his Juris Doctor at Whittier College. Alfred is also a member of the California Bar and focused on real estate law before relocating to China. He enjoys swimming, golf, finance, and investment, and he has traveled extensively throughout China. With a consultative approach towards legal recruitment, Alfred is able to bridge the gap between western and Chinese cultures and is fluent in Mandarin and English and proficient in Spanish. He has placed General Counsels and legal counsels for in-house legal departments of MNCs, as well as mid to senior private practice lawyers for international firms. Prior to joining Hughes-Castell, Alfred helped establish and manage the Shanghai office of another prominent search firm.

Elaine Weng

Consultant

Elaine joined Hughes-Castell as a consultant in 2009. She works on both private practice and in-house assignments in China. Her experience with both in-house legal recruitment and general function recruitment was gained from a top tier law firm and an international executive search firm. Elaine obtained her LLB degree from Shanghai University majoring in Intellectual Property Law. She speaks fluent English, Mandarin and basic Spanish.

Michelle Wang

Associate Consultant

Michelle joined Hughes-Castell as a researcher in 2010. She supports searches for both in-house and private practice roles. Prior to joining Hughes-Castell, Michelle was a researcher at another legal recruitment firm in China and a legal secretary at a respected international law firm. Michelle speaks native Chinese and Shanghainese, fluent English and basic French.

Eric He

Associate Consultant

Eric started his recruitment career concentrating on legal searches for multinational corporations and international law firms in mainland China. He joined Hughes-Castell's Beijing office in 2010 and is currently an Associate Consultant. With a comprehensive understanding of the recruitment market, solid training on market mapping and research methods and a great personality, Eric is well-equipped to assist clients on various legal assignments in corporate, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, tax, real estate, litigation and other practice areas. He can also counsel legal professionals on career advancement options in compliance, government and public relations with MNCs. He is an approachable and trustworthy friend, both from professional and personal perspectives. He speaks native Mandarin and fluent English.

Fiona Liu

Researcher

Fiona joined Hughes-Castell as a researcher in 2011. She supports searches for both in-house and private practice roles. Prior to joining Hughes-Castell, Fiona was a consultant and senior business operation specialist in a leading international management and technology consulting firm. She obtained her MSc in Logistics Trade and Finance from Cass Business School, City University in London and her BA in Business English from the University of International Business and Economics. Originally from Beijing, she has lived in both China and Germany, where she gained multi-cultural background and cheerful personality. She enjoys traveling and dancing. She speaks fluent English, native Mandarin and basic French and Cantonese.

Nicole Zhang

Researcher

Currently working as a Researcher at Hughes-Castell, Nicole supports hiring needs for both in-house and private practice roles. Prior to joining Hughes-Castell, she spent several years studying and working in Canada, and obtained her Master's degree in Industrial Relations and Human Resources from the University of Toronto. Well-equipped with in-depth knowledge in human resources management, she is dedicated to meeting the recruitment needs of clients and helping candidates find the right platform. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, playing piano, traveling and skiing. She is a PRC native who speaks fluent English.
