Doreen Jaeger-Soong

Managing Director

Born and educated in Hong Kong, Doreen majored in Psychology at Occidental College in California. She joined Hughes-Castell in 1991 and is a Managing Director of the company. She covers private practice and in-house in Asia. She is fluent in English, Cantonese, German and French and proficient in Mandarin.

Some of her achievements include a US firm's acquisition of an entire regional securitization practice-consisting of a team of seven lawyers including a partner, a UK law firm in its acquisition of its Tokyo office from a competing firm, a Wall Street firm's acquisition of a Korean law practice, as well as the recruitment of the General Counsel to a power company, the General Counsel to a global technology manufacturing company, the regional counsel of an international insurance company, the Head of Legal of a major hedge fund, the COO of a global investment bank and the General Counsel of a household name in asset management.

Sara Shao

Senior Consultant

Sara joined Hughes-Castell in 2006, and is now a Senior Consultant. She works on the placement of mid to senior-level lawyers in mainland China and graduated from the Business College of Massey University, New Zealand, majoring in Human Resource Management. She is a PRC national who speaks fluent English and has worked in both New Zealand and China.

Alfred Chu

Managing Consultant

Alfred is a Managing Consultant at Hughes-Castell. Originally from California, Alfred received his BA in Political Science and Economics at UC San Diego and completed his Juris Doctorate at Whittier College. Alfred is also a member of the California Bar and focused on real estate law before relocating to China. He enjoys swimming, golf, finance, investment, and has traveled extensively throughout China. With a consultative approach towards legal recruitment, Alfred is able to bridge the gap between western and Chinese cultures and is fluent in Mandarin and English and proficient in Spanish. He has placed General Counsels and legal counsels for in-house legal departments of MNCs, as well as mid to senior private practice lawyers for international firms. Prior to joining Hughes-Castell, Alfred helped establish and manage the Shanghai office of another prominent search firm.

Elaine Weng

Consultant

Elaine joined Hughes-Castell as a consultant in 2009. She works on both private practice and in-house assignments in China. Her experience with both in-house legal recruitment and general function recruitment was gained from a top tier law firm and an international executive search firm. Elaine obtained her LLB degree from Shanghai University majoring in Intellectual Property Law. She speaks fluent English, Mandarin and basic Spanish.

Sharry Xu

Consultant

Joining Hughes-Castell in 2009, Sharry is a Consultant who graduated with an LLB degree at East China Institute of Politics & Law. Before joining Hughes-Castell she worked for a major legal recruitment firm as a consultant where she gained two years experience. Sharry has successfully placed middle to high-level legal professionals for international firms and MNCs in China. She is a PRC national who speaks fluent English.
